OM Systems OM-3

So, this weekend, I decided to rent an OM Systems OM-3 camera and a 12-100 F/4 lens. I’m curious to see if this camera works for me. My main goal with this is to shed some weight from my camera gear which this will do nicely, and many of the system’s features really appeal to me too. One of the things I like about this camera is the ND filter option and the Graduated Filter option. It’s great to be able to get a handheld 50 megapixel image, and the chance to get 80 megapixels on my tripod is also exciting. Overall, I’m having a positive first impression. I like the look of the camera, its weight, and the fact that this one lens could replace 2 of my existing lenses. I also like the dial on the front that allows me to quickly switch between black and white photography and preview how the image would look in black and white. The camera feels premium and sturdy. Took this photo about 9 years ago and really has me wondering if old smokey is still around.

First night with the OM-3

Last night was my first test run with the OM-3. I was a bit worried about the ergonomics of the body, but I never really thought about it once I starting taking pictues, so that’s a plus. The high-resolution, 50 megapixel images were a bit hit or miss for me. I tried with flowers and they came out really nice, but when I tried with the deer, they were very iffy. I think the 20MP images came out cleaner. I’m hoping to get another hike in tonight to get some more nature stuff. This weekend is street and water, hopefully.
